Krewe De Roux in Dallas, TX lends a hand to the Visiting Nurses Association of Texas through philanthropic events.
"We have a special affinity for our neighbors to the east," says staff.
Krewe De Roux is Dallas' premier traditional Mardi Gras organization.
The Fifth Annual Boudin Ball was held Feb. 11th at the Granada Theatre benefiting the Visiting Nurses' Association (VNA) Meals on Wheels Program. The black-tie event featured live music among other things.
A St. Patrick's Day Parade will be held on Greenville Avenue March 11th.
Krewe members participate in a variety of philanthropic projects through VNA and other local charities. Several members of the Krewe are working VNA's Eldercare Direct Care program.
"I have always been so convinced of the worthwhile contribution that VNA makes to the community," said Beatrice Haggerty, honorary campaign chair.
The Krewe is also working with VNA to identify minor home improvement projects for Krewe members to complete at the homes of VNA clients.
The VNA was founded in 1934 by volunteers serving home care needs of the community.
The Dallas office is located at 1440 West Mockingbird Lane, #500.
Benefits of Krewe membership include but are not limited to two tickets to the annual Boudin Ball, t-shirt, beads, and other Krewe favors, and numerous Krewe member only events throughout the year including a membership party, holiday party, Bar B Krewe, and a 12th Night Party.
Membership is $200 per person or $350 per couple.
During the Carnival season Mardi Gras Krewes, local clubs that sponsor parades and Carnival events, hold elaborate balls and parties where their King, Queen, and other Royalty are announced for the year. Probably as a result of the post-war baby boom, many more Carnival Krewes were formed in the fifties and sixties.
In 1994 singer and actor Harry Connick, Jr., a New Orleans native, began a new superkrewe called Orpheus that rolls on Lundi Gras - the Monday before Fat Tuesday.
